Napier: land of the long flat white

If it’s something there’s plenty of in Napier, it’s cafés serving a great cup of Joe. There’s a good variety – some with views to the sea or some with sidewalk perches to sit and watch the world go by.

Tennyson Street

It’s easy to get a caffeine hit on Tennyson, with more cafés lining the street than you can shake a latte at.  Here are a few you may like to try:

Georgia

A much-loved coffee house with a cult following, dedicated to specialty coffee and alternative brewing methods.

Ujazi

A favourite with locals with its relaxed footpath dining and great coffee.

Mister D

A restaurant, a café or both, it’s relaxed and definitely a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll.

Groove Kitchen Espresso

A blend of music and coffee, wrapped up in a Spanish Mission building.

Others in town

It’s easy to get a caffeine hit on Tennyson, with more cafés lining the street than you can shake a latte at.  Here are a few you may like to try:

Adoro

A Napier icon open early for breakfast and lunch, and serving its own Adoro coffee blend. Corner of Hastings and Dickens Streets.

Starbucks

Who doesn’t know Starbucks? Instead of straight coffee, try a Frappuccino for a change. Located on Emerson Street.

Brooklyn Eatery & Shake Bar

American style dining with coffee, burgers, donuts and incredibly awesome milkshakes! Find them on Hastings Street. You’ve got to try the loaded hot chocolate…

Café DMP

a long-time favourite with Napierites, Dickens Street’s DMP has indoor and outdoor seating and serves all-day breakfast and lunch.

Albion Canteen

Located on the corner of Albion and Hastings Streets, serving salads and healthy treats, as well as serious coffee. Try their delicious breakfast bowl.

Hapi

World famous in Hawke’s Bay for living the adage “you are what you eat”, they also do an amazing coffee which of course goes perfectly with any of their guilt free slices.

Chantal

The Kitchen is a vegetarian café that sits at the front of Chantal organic store in Hastings Street.

Urban Deli

Nestled in an oasis amongst the CBD in Civic Court, Urban Deli provides that ultimate mix of amazing coffee, home baked treats like Mum used to make (if Mum was an amazing cook that is) and enough room for the kidlets to run around outside worry free.
