Pharmacy with a Deco Distinction

The Haynes Building located at 136 Hastings Street has been home to many different businesses, including Haynes Butchery.  Originally built in 1924, it survived the earthquake and it was “modernized” in 1931 with a new Art Deco Style façade.

Current proprietors, Charleston Pharmacy are about to celebrate 5 years in the premises.   James and Trudi’s love of Art Deco has extended to the interior with Art Deco inspired décor including fifth avenue columns, art deco fonts and carpets.

Charleston Pharmacy has a baby grand piano inside and often you will find a pianist treating listeners to popular music from the 1930’s – whisking you back to a different era in time.

Inside you will find a number of unique gifts including Art Deco model cars, and trucks, an extensive selection of lotions and beautiful keepsakes.

Art Deco headbands are available including the “Gatsby” replica headband.  Charleston also tries to provide shoppers with a broader range of products including skincare such as Puriti Premium Pure Raw Manuka Honey Range, harvested, tested, certified and packed in New Zealand.

Popular with locals and tourists alike, Charleston is your “go to” for travel size items including 45g toothpaste which happens to be one of the highest selling items in the store!

Charlestons service differs from most.  They go the extra mile for your prescriptions – offering a free delivery service in the CBD and also a free fax fee.  This makes it simple to drop off your prescriptions in the morning and have them ready to take home with you by the end of the day.

Charleston is really something different and worth visiting on your stop in Napier.
